The Seventh House in Traditional Astrology: The Sunset Place

Sunset moment from my wedding day <3
In Hellenistic astrology, the Seventh House -called dusis, meaning “setting,” is the house located on the western horizon (where the sun literally sets) directly opposite from the Ascendant. (eastern horizon and where the sun rises)

It represents marriage, relations, and the union of partnerships over all.  This part of the natal chart is where you find people in your life that hold long-term significance to you by choice or by contract.
For better or worse, cooperative or adversarial. It is where the Self (1H) meets the Other (7H).

The natal conditions of the seventh house characterize the types of relationships you find yourself in. You can then consider the first house as a representation of how you show up in relationships.

A personal, cheesy yet concise, trick I used to remember the meanings and connections the seventh house has to the Ascendant in Hellenistic symbolism is to think of how any old fairy tale ends when the princess and prince “ride off into the sunset” and live happily ever after.

The End
